Standard 5 a - Personal Learning Network Activity: I am an active member of the one of NMU’s Elementary Education Professional communities on Facebook. This group keeps me up to date on what is going on in the field placements of my peers. It is also a place to share resources for common lessons. I have been a member since the start of Fall 2015, and utilize it every few days for updates. This is relevant to the standard because it is a way for me to communicate with other pre-service teachers in my local community of Northern Michigan University. Through the use of Facebook, members can easily share resources like videos, blogs, websites and other online tools. In addition, it allows members immediate access to an entire network of pre-service teachers from any device at any time. Recently, I used this group to share a tool for creating graphics online. Through active participation, I have met the standard of participating in local communities to further learning for our students. Using a tool to create attractive graphics can increase student’s visual literacy, a vital skill in today’s classroom. This Facebook allowed me to share this tool with other pre-service teachers.

Artifact Standard 5a

Standard 5c-My blog on technology in education is an example of this standard. Weekly, I add a blog post that discusses relevant issues within the field technology within the classroom. My blog is located within my personal website. The entries that I write center on different aspects of technology within a classroom. Included are posts about digital citizenship, personal learning networks, online tools available to educators and google for educators. Creating my own blog, has kept me up to date on research and trends within this field. It meets standard 5c because of the posts that I add almost weekly, proving that I am evaluating research on a regular basis. The diversity within my blog posts also shows the wide range of issues that I reflect on. Throughout my blog, I provide many helpful links to tools that other educators can utilize within their classroom. In the future, I will share my blog with colleges to gain more feedback on my blog posts. In addition, I would like to continue to browse and comment on other pre-service teachers sites to create a community of learners.
