Teachers understand local and global societal issues and responsibilities in an evolving digital culture and exhibit legal and ethical behavior in their professional practices.

a. Advocate, model, and teach safe, legal, and ethical use of digital information and technology, including respect for copyright, intellectual property, and the appropriate documentation of sources

b. Address the diverse needs of all learners by using learner-centered strategies providing equitable access to appropriate digital tools and resources

c. Promote and model digital etiquette and responsible social interactions related to the use of technology and information

d. Develop and model cultural understanding and global awareness by engaging with colleagues and students of other cultures using digital-age communication and collaboration tools

Standard 4a - For this standard, I have attached a third grade social studies lesson. Throughout the lesson, students use chrome books to research information about Ancient Egypt. The main technology focus within this lesson is to think critically about what sources they are using. The secondary focus is to cite sources whenever we borrow information. This activity allows students to fuel their own research by looking up topics that interest them primarily through preapproved sites. This is a lesson that I used with a group of three 3rd graders. However, when I was actually implementing the lesson we ended up researching as a group using one computer. In the future, I would use this lesson with a slightly older grade if I wanted to keep it as an individual assignment.

Standard 4c- Students have unique needs and learn in a variety of ways. For this artifact I have included a tool kit for teachers who work with students with special needs. Within this tool kit is different examples of technology that would be appropriate to use with each type of disability. As a teacher this would help you address the diverse needs of your learners through the use of technology.
