S2 - Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments

Teachers design, develop, and evaluate authentic learning experiences and assessments incorporating contemporary tools and resources to maximize content learning in context and to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitudes identified in the Standard.

a. Design or adapt relevant learning experiences that incorporate digital tools and resources to promote student learning and creativity

b. Develop technology-enriched learning environments that enable all students to pursue their individual curiosities and become active participants in setting their own educational goals, managing their own learning, and assessing their own progress

c. Customize and personalize learning activities to address students’ diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities using digital tools and resources

d. Provide students with multiple and varied formative and summative assessments aligned with content and technology standards, and use resulting data to inform learning and teaching

Standard 2a- My artifact for this standard is a lesson plan that I have created for a 3rd grade unit plan on Ancient Egypt. This lesson is the fourth week of the unit and focuses on what you may find inside an Egyptian tomb. For this lesson we began by looking at a book about Ancient Egyptian Tombs as a way to expand our learning experience using a digital tool we went on a virtual field trip. This field trip took students into an Ancient Egyptian tomb. Through the interactive experience students get the chance to proceed at their own time pace through the tour. By clicking on different things that they are interested in students can move through the tomb and learn more information about different objects. This virtual tour allows students to visit a faraway place that they otherwise would not be able to access.

Standard 2d - For this standard, I have included a link to a google form. This survey could be used with students to evaluate their prior experience with technology. It is broken down into three major sections. The first section, labeled personal information is to collect the name and grade of the student. The second section is to evaluate how much experience the student has at home using technology. This is important to understand, because every student will be coming in with a different set of experiences. The third section’s focus is on prior technology used within the classroom. By finding out what students have enjoyed in the past we can create future activities. This survey can be sent out to a class electronically. One advantage of using google forms is that the teacher will receive immediate feedback. Furthermore, the teacher can analyze the data and create a spreadsheet from the responses. This ability makes using google forms more effective than a traditional pen and paper method.  In the future I would save documents such as this survey, to use from one year to the next. Depending on a specific classes need modifications can be made. Over time valuable instruction time will be saved by handling the survey process digitally. In addition, I would consider creating a technology survey for the end of the year. It would be a good opportunity to find out what students enjoyed and what needs to be worked on still.
